TrueBeam™ STx is a new solution that is more powerful, accurate and faster than a typical linear accelerator, allowing USC physicians to confidently treat complex cancers with the latest and most advanced radiosurgical techniques in the world. Ideal for challenging cases in the brain, spine, lung, liver, prostate and other sites, the system uses sophisticated imaging and respiration synchronization tools to visualize soft tissue during treatment and customize treatment accordingly. With new beam-shaping capabilities using a high-intensity mode, USC physicians can deliver larger doses of radiotherapy in smaller places. In addition, our doctors can perform radiosurgery procedures faster, with most treatments taking only a few minutes a day.
Gamma Knife® therapy delivers more than 200 beams of radiation with pinpoint accuracy to cancer cells and tumors to avoid damaging healthy tissue. Ideal for treating tumors in the brain, each individual beam is relatively low intensity, so the radiation has little effect on intervening brain tissue and is concentrated only at the tumor itself. At Keck Medicine of USC, our physicians use the Perfexion model – the latest version of Gamma Knife® technology. Gamma Knife® radiosurgery has proven effective for patients with benign or malignant brain tumors up to 4 centimeters in size and vascular malformations.
