Overview and Indications
Chemotherapy is a treatment for cancer using cancer-killing drugs. Depending on the type of cancer and the individual person, chemotherapy may be used alone or in combination with either surgery or radiation oncology or both. Chemotherapy may be used to cure cancer, decrease cancer, prevent spreading or relieve cancer symptoms.
Chemotherapy may be administered via injections into muscles, under the skin or into the artery or a vein, pills taken orally, or injections into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord or brain.
